The Astrocartography Edit-How to work with your location instead of fighting it
It’s no secret that many people all over the world are either outright unhappy with or somewhat unsatisfied with their current location. When we think about the topic of place, we realize that there are a plethora of factors that go into why we either choose to live in or end up in a specific location. Some of the most common ones include:
Work/career/job/business opportunities
proximity to family and/or friends
immigration factors such as where it’s easiest or most affordable to gain residency or citizenship
climate
safety
Schools and universities, a good education system
Finding a community of people from your national/ethnic/religious background
Finding a like-minded community of people
political beliefs/ideology
Granted, these are not the only factors, but they’re the ones I most commonly hear about.
Sometimes, we make the conscious choice to live somewhere and we end up loving it and thriving there. Other times, the vision we initially had doesn’t quite match reality. In some cases, people are kind of forced to relocate due to circumstances that are totally out of their control, and often end up unhappy.
The main point I’m trying to make is, we all end up somewhere, and whether we like that place or not will vary. Astrocartography can explain the why behind how we feel in a location and the associations we have with it, but it can also help us better understand and deal with the energies present there.
First, I think it’s important to share some of the more difficult planetary lines and relocated chart placements, so that we can understand the different ways in which they can manifest and develop strategies that help us manage themes energies and themes.
Some of the more challenging planetary lines (ranked in order)
1. Pluto IC line: I’ve talked about this line many times before, because I’ve worked with several clients who have lived on theirs, and I’ve come to the conclusion that it’s arguably the most challenging astrocartography line you can live on. There are a lot of themes around loss, death, transformation, and rebirth especially in relation to family (eg. losing a family member, divorce, difficult breakups), as well as financial stability (job losses, job instability), and even threats to physical safety (losing one’s home to a natural disaster).
Strategies to deal with it: If someone is going to continue on this line long-term, they must learn to surrender and release control entirely. Living here is an opportunity to develop resilience and detachment. It’s also important for people living on this line to embrace the concept of impermanence and accept that no matter where we are, life is in a constant state of flux.
2. Saturn MC line: This line often points to some difficulties relating to career and reputation, and can manifest in a variety of ways. It could look like major issues with coworkers, bosses, or authority figures, or it can look like having difficulty or taking a long time to advance in your career or business.
Strategies to deal with it: As annoying as this may sound, Saturn rewards hard work, patience, resilience, planning, organization, strategy, and being methodical. When having Saturn influences such as this one, it’s important to embody the concept of mastery, because this will enable you to lay the foundations for long-term success. Quick fixes and shortcuts won’t be effective on this line.
3. Chiron DC line: Chiron in our birth chart shows where our deepest emotional wounds lie; the difficult experiences we’ve gone through, traumas, deep fears, and rejection. Working with our Chiron placement enables us to heal and transform, but we must recognize those patterns and tendencies first. The Chiron DC line can bring up lots of themes of social and romantic rejection, which can be tough to grapple with.
Strategies to deal with it: Try to get a solid understanding of your Chiron placement either on your own or through working with an astrologer (like me, hehe). This will give you insight into what triggers you most. Leaning into your discernment (we all have it, it’s in there somewhere) and bodily sensations as warning signs regarding a person or situation that is not aligned with you will also help. I also recommend reading this Substack Chiron series by an amazing creator.
Chiron is all about turning our pain into power.
Some of the more challenging relocated chart placements
1. 12th House stellium or personal planets (especially moon) in the 12th House: The 12th House in astrology deals with all things unseen, the things that society wants us to minimize, ignore, and pretend don’t exist. This includes mental health, isolation, jails, hospitals, psychiatric wards, but also the unconscious mind, spirituality, and the metaphysical world. People with strong 12th House placements tend to be quite empathetic being that they tend to “feel everything”, but being that this house does incorporate mental health and isolation, these are themes that can emerge when a person has a 12th House stellium in their relocated chart.
Strategies to deal with it: Reminding yourself, every day, what it’s like to be surrounded with loved ones, people who uplift you. Not giving into the lack mindset, especially when it comes to your relationships, avoiding making generalizations about people, learning to take the initiative (because the 12th House could really activate our fears) in spite of a fear of rejection.
2. 8th House stellium or having planets like Sun, Moon, Venus, or Pluto in the 8th House: I have a massive 8th House stellium in SCORPIO in my relocated chart here in Madrid. Let me tell you, this is not for the weak! I’ve got some great placements in my relocated chart here, but one cannot underestimate 8th House energy. For me, it has looked like crazy power dynamics, going through psychological manipulation, making lots of money but also losing it, and, much earlier on in my time here, feeling very shy and “hidden.”
Strategies to deal with it: 8th House energy rules over psychology and the subconscious mind, and, especially if you have Mercury here (like I do), you might experience a lot of obsessive thoughts and mental chatter that just feels so heavy. Self-doubt can get out of control. How did I learn to manage it? By affirming my way into not taking things personally, imposing physical and energetic boundaries with certain people, and getting out of my head through therapy, which helped me “do the thing” and put myself out there more without fear.
If you’re living in a tough location and leaving isn’t really on the horizons right now, I suggest booking an astrocartography session with me, where we will explore your relationship to your current location and get un-stuck!
